Gujarat to Launch Its First Advanced Nursery for Environmental Conservation
Introduction to the Hi-Tech Nursery
Banaskantha, March 6: Gujarat is preparing to inaugurate its inaugural high-tech nursery in Davas village, located in the Deesa taluka of Banaskantha district. This initiative will span around 13 acres with an investment of approximately Rs 3.5 crore.
Project Supervision and Goals
The Gujarat Forest Department, along with the Social Forestry Department, is overseeing this project under the leadership of state Forest and Environment Minister Pravin Mali. The primary aim is to bolster afforestation efforts and safeguard rare plant species throughout the state.
Officials have indicated that this nursery will serve as a model for environmental preservation in Gujarat.
Objectives and Production Capacity
The nursery's main goal is to cultivate high-quality, disease-resistant plants utilizing cutting-edge technology, controlled environments, and scientific methodologies. This initiative is expected to facilitate extensive afforestation and enhance the state's environmental protection initiatives.
It is projected that the nursery will generate over 1 million saplings each year. State-of-the-art facilities, including a mist chamber, germination chamber, polyhouse, and net house, will be incorporated to ensure optimal growth, even in challenging weather conditions.
Innovative Cultivation Techniques
To conserve plant species that are on the brink of extinction, innovative techniques such as soil-less media cultivation will be employed, promoting quicker and healthier growth.
Additionally, a seed bank and seed processing unit will be established within the facility, allowing for the scientific storage of rare and valuable seeds for long-term preservation.
Educational and Supportive Initiatives
A 'Nursery Information Centre' will be created to offer guidance to students, farmers, and environmental enthusiasts regarding plant cultivation, afforestation, and natural conservation.
Moreover, a vermicomposting unit will be included to produce organic fertilizer, promoting healthy plant growth.
Impact on Environmental Conservation
The nursery will implement methods to develop tall and robust saplings, supporting large-scale tree plantation initiatives across the state.
Officials emphasized that this nursery will not only enhance Gujarat's green cover but also help maintain ecological balance and significantly contribute to the conservation of endangered plant species.
They noted, 'This nursery will set a standard in modern agricultural technology, scientific afforestation, and environmental conservation, providing guidance to other districts within the state.'
