International Leaders Congratulate Modi on Milestone Achievement
Rome/Male: Political figures from various nations have sent their congratulations to Narendra Modi, marking his achievement as India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister.
Having assumed office in 2014, Modi reached this significant milestone on Wednesday, completing an uninterrupted tenure of 4,399 days, surpassing the record set by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Among those who expressed their well-wishes on social media were Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung, Malaysia's Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Sri Lankan President Aruna Kumara Dissanayake, and former Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
Meloni congratulated Modi while reflecting on the recently established Special Strategic Partnership between India and Italy, stating, "It has been a pleasure to meet again in Rome in recent weeks and to launch together a Special Strategic Partnership that looks to the future to create new opportunities for our Nations and our peoples."
Maldivian President Muizzu expressed his hopes for further collaboration with India, emphasizing mutual respect and shared interests.
Prime Minister Ibrahim of Malaysia commended Modi's leadership, noting, "This achievement stands as a testament to his years of dedicated public service and leadership in advancing India’s development, prosperity, and standing on the global stage," while highlighting Malaysia's valued friendship with India.
Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu referred to Modi as a "trusted ally" and remarked that his achievement reflects the confidence and trust of the citizens in his leadership over three consecutive terms.
Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto acknowledged Modi's journey from humble beginnings, calling it a testament to dedication and public service.
Former Australian PM Morrison praised Modi for his role in transforming India's economy, stating, "A true statesman who has transformed India’s economy and standing in the world. Proud of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership we built together."
Nehru, who was first elected in 1952, served until May 27, 1964, with a total of 4,398 days in office. His earlier tenure from 1947 to 1952 was as head of an interim government, as elections were not conducted until 1952.
Indira Gandhi, another former Prime Minister, served over 15 years, but her terms were not continuous. Her first three consecutive terms lasted from January 1966 to March 1977, after which she lost power, only to be re-elected for a fourth term starting in January 1980 until her assassination in 1984.
