FIFA Imposes Suspension on All Nepal Football Association

FIFA has suspended the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), significantly affecting the country's football landscape. This suspension prohibits Nepal's teams and clubs from participating in international competitions and accessing vital development programs. The suspension will remain in effect until the issues leading to it are resolved, with the possibility of reinstatement before the next FIFA Congress. This article delves into the implications of this decision and the path forward for ANFA.

FIFA Suspends All Nepal Football Association

FIFA has announced the immediate suspension of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), marking a significant setback for football in Nepal. The governing body stated, "We hereby inform you that, following the decision made by the Bureau of the Council on June 24, 2026, ANFA is suspended until further notice in accordance with article 16 of the FIFA Statutes."

Impact of the Suspension

This suspension means that Nepal's national teams and clubs will not be allowed to compete in international events sanctioned by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Additionally, ANFA will lose access to FIFA and AFC development programs, training initiatives, and educational opportunities for its members and officials.

"As of June 24, 2026, ANFA has forfeited all membership rights as outlined in article 13 of the FIFA Statutes until further notice. Consequently, ANFA representatives and club teams are prohibited from participating in international competitions until the suspension is lifted. Furthermore, neither ANFA nor its members or officials can benefit from any development programs, courses, or training provided by FIFA or the AFC. We also remind you and your affiliates to refrain from entering into any sporting agreements with ANFA or its teams during this suspension," the statement emphasized.

Reinstatement Process

FIFA indicated that the suspension could be lifted before the next FIFA Congress if the issues leading to the suspension are addressed. "Ultimately, the Bureau of the Council or the FIFA Council may revoke this suspension at any time prior to the next FIFA Congress. If this happens, we will notify you accordingly," the statement concluded.
