New York, July 21: Tensions surrounding immigration enforcement have escalated dangerously, culminating in an attack on a federal office by a former Army serviceman.

On Monday, outside the federal building that accommodates the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other government entities, the assailant ignited petrol, set off fireworks, and discharged a firearm, resulting in injuries to three individuals, as reported by authorities.

This incident follows the recent fatal shootings of two individuals during traffic stops conducted by ICE agents and another man's death after being struck by a vehicle while fleeing from officers last week.

Details of the Attack

Andrew Arrabaca, 43, who previously worked on the Patriot missile system during his military service, executed the attack shortly before the office's opening, pushing a cart displaying a poster that read, "ICE Off Our Streets.”

He was apprehended immediately after the incident, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which has a presence in the building.

FBI Assistant Director James Barnacle stated, "Mr. Arrabaca came armed, with bad intentions," adding that he acknowledged targeting the building and expressed indifference towards harming others.

Response and Aftermath

The fire was extinguished before it could damage the building, and Arrabaca was restrained before he could utilize the axes, hammer, and machete he had brought along, officials confirmed.

Authorities also recovered two air rifles, with Barnacle noting that some pellets had been fired.

Among the injured were a man who was waiting for an immigration interview and two police officers who intervened to subdue the attacker.
