Second Round of Payments Begins

Eligible users of Facebook are set to receive another payment as part of the social media platform's $725 million privacy settlement. The distribution of these payments commenced on June 9 and is expected to continue for approximately four weeks, following a court's approval in May. This payout is part of an ongoing lawsuit that accused Facebook of improperly sharing users' private information with numerous external entities over a span of 15 years. Notably, Cambridge Analytica, a political data firm linked to the 2016 US elections, was among those who accessed this data. In 2023, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, reached a settlement without admitting any wrongdoing, and remaining appeals were settled by May 2025, as reported by Yahoo Finance.

How Much Will You Receive?

While the amount may not be substantial, it is essentially free money. The initial round of payments, distributed in September 2025, averaged around $30. The upcoming distribution is anticipated to be between $5 and $7 per individual. Out of approximately 250 million eligible Facebook users for the first payment, only about 19 million submitted claims and received checks. Legal and administrative expenses consumed around $169 million from the total settlement fund.

If you submitted a claim form before the deadline of August 25, 2023, and received a first payment last fall, you are automatically eligible for this second payment. No additional action is required on your part. Eligible users should receive an email notification a few days prior to the funds being deposited.

It is important to note that Facebook employees and companies associated with Meta are not eligible for this settlement.
