Termination of Employee Over Controversial Comments

A health insurance firm in the United States has let go of an employee following the emergence of a video that seemingly shows her expressing sympathy regarding an attempted attack on Donald Trump. UnitedHealth Group confirmed that the individual is no longer with the company after facing significant backlash on social media platforms. A spokesperson for the company stated, "Violence is never acceptable, and any comments suggesting otherwise do not align with our mission and values." They further clarified that the individual who made remarks about the incident at a Washington event, where President Trump and other political figures were present, is no longer part of the organization.

The company did not disclose the name of the employee. The viral video, which gained traction on the social media platform X, features a woman reacting to the news of the assassination attempt. In the footage, she initially expresses skepticism about the authenticity of the incident, saying it was "probably fake," before adding, "aww, they missed," and concluding that such sentiments indicate the country is "cooked." The clip was shared by various accounts, including the prominent "Libs of TikTok." Social media users speculated that the woman was Alison King, a 29-year-old social media manager at UnitedHealthcare, who has reportedly deleted her LinkedIn profile.

This incident occurs amidst rising political tensions in the U.S., particularly following a recent assassination attempt on the president. It also comes in the wake of the tragic death of Brian Thompson, the chief executive of UnitedHealthcare, who was shot in New York in December 2024. After that incident, some online users expressed support for the alleged shooter, Luigi Mangione, framing the act as a protest against corporate influence. Posts circulating online indicated that the woman had been with UnitedHealthcare since July 2025 and had previously worked at Optum and Skol Marketing. Skol Marketing issued a statement clarifying, "We have no association with her and do not condone violence in any form," noting that she had not been employed there for five years.

An online profile believed to be associated with the individual was inaccessible as of Tuesday morning. Republican Senator Mike Lee shared the video on X, questioning how UnitedHealth Group plans to address the comments made by their social media manager regarding the assassination attempt on President Trump. He asked, "@UHC, what's your reaction?" Other users also condemned her remarks, with one stating, "This violent rhetoric is dangerous and has no place in a civil society," while another referenced the earlier murder of the company's CEO. Many posts called for the termination of the employee. As of Tuesday, the original video account appeared to be unavailable on TikTok.
