Active Shooter Situation in Pelican Narrows


Authorities in Saskatchewan have issued an urgent alert regarding an active shooter in the northern town of Pelican Narrows. The Saskatchewan Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) sent out the alert at 14:28 CST on Monday, indicating that the situation was unfolding at the local health clinic. Residents have been advised to take immediate safety measures as the identity of the suspect remains unknown.


Local residents are urged to find shelter in a secure location, secure their doors, and refrain from approaching the suspected shooter. The police have also requested that the public refrain from disclosing the locations of responding officers and to avoid the vicinity of the incident.


Pelican Narrows is situated approximately 420 kilometers northeast of Saskatoon. The RCMP has stated that additional updates will be communicated through Saskatchewan's emergency alert system. This alert follows a recent appeal from community leaders for help in tackling what they termed "ongoing and serious violence" in Pelican Narrows, which has seen two homicide investigations in recent weeks.


On May 21, 26-year-old Jaden Custer was fatally shot, leading to the arrest of 31-year-old Brett McCallum on charges of second-degree murder. Earlier, on May 13, the remains of 16-year-old Jay'Siiah Webb-Long, who had been missing for over a year after traveling from Ontario, were found during a planned search operation.
