Drone Attack on Madrassa in Pakistan Injures Nine Children: Community Outrage Ensues
Drone Strike Injures Children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Peshawar: On Friday, officials reported that a drone attack in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province resulted in injuries to nine children, including three girls.
The drone targeted a religious school in Shadikhel village, located in the Tank district, during class hours on Thursday.
Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene and transported the injured to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Tank.
Medical staff confirmed that the victims included three girls and six boys, all of whom are now reported to be out of danger.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, but no group has yet taken responsibility for the attack.
In response to the strike, local residents, led by clerics, organized a sit-in protest at the main square in Tank district, denouncing the attack on the madrassa as a heinous act.
The protest caused significant disruptions, with major roads closed and markets shuttered for several hours.
District Police Officer Shabbir Hussain arrived at the protest site to help manage the situation and engaged in discussions with the clerics.
Eventually, DPO Hussain, along with Additional Deputy Commissioner Naimatullah and Assistant Commissioner Sajid Khan, negotiated with the protesters, leading to a temporary halt of the demonstration.
The protesters called on the authorities to take the incident seriously and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
