Azadpur Mandi's Decision on Turkish Apples

The Azadpur Mandi in Delhi has announced a halt on the import of apples from Turkey, a decision influenced by Turkey's support for Pakistan. This action reflects the growing political tensions between India and Pakistan.

Meetha Ram Kriplani, the Chairman of Azadpur Fruit Mandi, stated, "We have resolved to stop all new imports of apples from Turkey. Although previous orders will still be fulfilled, no additional trade in apples or other products will occur from this point onward."

He further explained, "We have maintained trade relations with Turkey for many years, but the current situation has compelled us to take this step."

Context of the Decision

This decision follows the tragic Pahalgam Attack on April 22, 2025, where terrorists targeted a group of tourists, resulting in 26 fatalities and numerous injuries. In response, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'Operation Sindoor,' aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

During this period, drone attacks originating from Pakistan were effectively countered by Indian forces. Subsequently, a ceasefire was announced by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on May 9, 2025, stating that both nations would cease all military actions across land, air, and sea starting at 1700 hours IST. However, Pakistan reportedly violated this ceasefire on the same day.
