Capitals Shine in WPL 2026 Final

In a thrilling finale of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026, the Delhi Capitals (DC) showcased an impressive batting display, scoring 203 runs for the loss of 4 wickets against the reigning champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).


Opting to bat first, the Capitals, led by Jemimah Rodrigues, achieved the highest team total ever recorded in a WPL final. Rodrigues was the standout performer, scoring 57 runs, while Laura Wolvaardt contributed 44 runs and Chinelle Henry remained unbeaten on 35.


Capitals Establish a Solid Start

The match began cautiously for the Delhi Capitals, who managed only 9 runs without loss in the first three balls. However, Lizelle Lee and Shafali Verma quickly accelerated the scoring, bringing the total to 36 runs without loss after five overs.


Arundhati Reddy provided the breakthrough for RCB by dismissing Verma, who scored 20 runs off 13 balls, including three boundaries, breaking the opening partnership of 53 runs.


Nadine de Klerk then took the wicket of Lee, who made 37 runs off 30 balls, featuring three fours and three sixes, leaving the Capitals at 74 for 2.


Rodrigues Leads the Charge

At the halfway mark, Delhi had posted 94 runs for the loss of 2 wickets, with captain Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura Wolvaardt stabilizing the innings.


The duo continued to dominate, pushing the score to 113 for 2 after 12 overs.


Captain's Record-Breaking Fifty

Rodrigues reached her fifty in just 32 balls during the fifth ball of the 15th over, marking the second-fastest fifty in WPL playoff history, just behind Nat Sciver-Brunt's 29-ball fifty from the previous year. She also became the third player to score over 50 runs in a WPL final, joining the ranks of Harmanpreet Kaur and Nat Sciver-Brunt.


Unfortunately, Rodrigues was dismissed by Sayali Satghare in the 16th over, finishing with 57 runs off 37 balls, including eight boundaries.


Henry's Explosive Finish Secures Victory

By the end of the 18th over, the Capitals had established a strong position at 164 for 3. Chinelle Henry then delivered a spectacular performance, scoring an unbeaten 35 runs off just 15 balls, which included four boundaries and two sixes. Wolvaardt also played a crucial role with her 44 runs off 25 balls, helping Delhi set a daunting target of 204 runs.


For RCB, Sayali Satghare, Arundhati Reddy, and Nadine de Klerk each took one wicket.
