Washington: President Donald Trump has indicated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is interested in negotiating an end to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, hinting at the possibility of another meeting between the two leaders.

Speaking to reporters prior to his departure on Air Force One to Dallas, Trump shared insights from his recent conversation with Putin, stating, “We had a great conversation.”

He noted that Putin is eager to reach an agreement, adding, “If Zelensky is wanting to make a deal, that would be very nice,” referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

When questioned about the barriers to an agreement, Trump pointed to the animosity between the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, saying, “The holdup is two people that hate each other.”

He reiterated this sentiment, emphasizing that the primary challenge in achieving peace lies in the mutual disdain between the two leaders.

Trump did not specify when he last spoke with Putin, nor did he reveal the duration of their discussion or the topics covered.

When asked about the potential for progress, Trump attributed it to his extensive experience in negotiations, stating, “I think that because I speak to people — that’s all I do, is speak to people my whole life.”

He expressed confidence in his ability to facilitate a deal, noting, “These are two people that are tired of fighting.”

While Trump mentioned that another meeting with Putin could occur, he did not provide details regarding a date or location.

He highlighted the urgent need for a resolution, citing the tragic loss of life in the conflict, stating, “Too many people are dying in that war, 25,000 last month.”
