Challenges Faced by Foreign Nationals in the U.S.

Since President Trump's return to power, foreign nationals residing in the United States have encountered numerous challenges. According to a report from a financial publication, the situation for H-1B visa holders in the U.S. is alarming. A study revealed that one in six H-1B visa holders or their acquaintances received deportation notices before the expiration of the 60-day grace period after losing their jobs. Many individuals now feel that returning to India is their only option.

The issuance of such notices by U.S. authorities has caused significant anxiety among residents. This is largely due to the reduction in income and lifestyle changes that follow job loss, heightening concerns for many.

Time Granted for Job Search

Typically, H-1B employees who are laid off are allowed a 60-day period to find new employment or change their visa status. However, reports have surfaced indicating that notices of termination have been issued before this grace period ends, with some being sent within just two weeks. While regulations stipulate a 60-day timeframe, officials have the discretion to extend this period if they choose.

Job Losses Among Indian Nationals

Many Indians in the U.S. are employed under H-1B visas. However, those who had plans to settle permanently are now reconsidering their options. A survey indicates that a significant number of individuals wish to return to India, as 45% of Indian nationals in the U.S. have lost their jobs. Consequently, 26% have relocated to other countries for work, while others are contemplating returning to India due to the premature notices they have received.

Some individuals express a reluctance to seek employment in the U.S. again, while others still aspire to work there. Many believe that leaving the U.S. would lead to substantial salary reductions, affecting their social lives and limiting job opportunities. This is why many prefer to remain in the U.S. to maintain a good job and quality lifestyle.
