China Dismisses US Claims of Missile Material Links to Iranian Cargo Ship
China's Firm Denial of Allegations
On Tuesday, China firmly rejected any allegations linking it to an Iranian cargo ship that was intercepted by the US in the Gulf, which was purportedly carrying materials for missile production.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated during a press briefing that the vessel in question is a foreign-flagged ship and condemned the unfounded accusations made by former US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley.
Haley had claimed on social media that the cargo ship was en route from China to Iran and was involved in transporting chemical materials for missile development.
She emphasized that the ship ignored multiple orders to halt, suggesting that China is indirectly supporting Iran's regime, a situation that should not be overlooked.
A US naval vessel enforcing a blockade directed at ships bound for Iranian ports fired upon the cargo ship after it allegedly failed to comply with stop orders.
Subsequently, US Marines boarded the ship and took control of it.
In response, the Iranian military issued a warning, stating it would retaliate against the US actions concerning the cargo vessel.
Iran's military described the US as the 'aggressor,' accusing it of violating ceasefire agreements and committing acts of maritime robbery against an Iranian commercial ship in the Sea of Oman, as reported by CNN.
They further claimed that the US had damaged the ship's navigational systems and deployed troops on board, labeling these actions as aggressive.
Following this incident, Iran did not confirm its attendance at the upcoming peace talks with the US scheduled in Pakistan this week.
Last week, China also refuted claims of providing military assistance to Iran, including defense and satellite support.
US President Donald Trump had previously warned of imposing significant tariffs on China if it were found to be supplying arms to Iran.
In response to these allegations, Guo reiterated that China maintains a cautious and responsible approach regarding military exports, adhering strictly to its laws and international obligations.
Regarding the tariff threats, he stated that if the US proceeded with tariff increases based on these claims, China would retaliate with its own measures.
China, which is a significant importer of Iranian oil, maintains strategic and defense relations with Iran.
Additionally, a CNN report earlier this month indicated that US intelligence suggests China is preparing to send new air defense systems to Iran, including shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missile systems known as MANPADs.
