Chaos at White House Correspondents' Dinner: Erika Kirk's Emotional Response
Incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner
Erika Kirk, the CEO of Turning Point USA, was visibly shaken backstage during the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night after gunfire erupted. Footage captured her in tears as she hurried through the backstage area, expressing her desire to leave the event, stating, "I just want to go home." Fortunately, she was safely escorted out of the venue.
Despite the chaos, US President Donald Trump remained unharmed, and several high-ranking officials were evacuated from the event after a suspect allegedly opened fire. The US Secret Service confirmed that the individual was apprehended near the main security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton, the venue for the dinner. All key figures, including First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and various Cabinet members, were reported safe.
It is worth noting that Erika Kirk's husband, Charlie Kirk, tragically lost his life in September 2025 during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University.
'Sick Person' Trump Responds to the Shooting
Following the incident, Trump spoke to reporters, labeling the shooter a "sick person." He also shared surveillance footage that appeared to show the suspect entering the hotel ballroom, bypassing security metal detectors as armed security personnel reacted. Trump remarked, "I’ve studied assassinations, and I must tell you, the most impactful people... the people that do the most, the people that make the biggest impact, they're the ones that they go after." He added, "It's a dangerous profession, but I don't view it that way. Look, I'm here to do a job. It's part of the job... I love the country, and I'm very proud."
The White House Correspondents’ Annual Dinner has been postponed and will be rescheduled. The suspect has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California, and he is currently in custody.
