Dharamsala, July 6: On Monday, Tibetans and millions of admirers around the globe marked the 91st birthday of the 14th Dalai Lama, expressing wishes for his long and healthy life.
A Tibetan expressed hope, stating, "One day we will celebrate His Holiness' birthday in front of the Potala Palace in Lhasa, free from China's oppression."
The Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) conveyed heartfelt birthday wishes on behalf of the Tibetan community, praying for the Dalai Lama's continued health, longevity, and compassion for all beings.
Despite the Nobel Peace Laureate being in Leh, Ladakh, recovering from knee surgery, large crowds gathered at the Tsuglagkhang temple in McLeodganj, a charming hill station near Dharamsala, to partake in the festivities.
The International Buddhist Confederation extended its deepest respect, stating, "His Holiness has inspired countless individuals globally with his lifelong commitment to compassion, humanity, and peace. His enduring message of kindness and mutual respect is increasingly relevant today. May his wisdom guide us towards a more compassionate world."
Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, also shared his birthday wishes, hoping the occasion brings joy and prosperity in the coming year.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to social media, expressing, "With deep reverence and joy, I join millions in celebrating the 91st birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama." He added, "To the embodiment of Chenrezig, whose life exemplifies compassion and wisdom, I offer my prayers for your continued health and stability."
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang echoed similar sentiments, stating, "The people of Sikkim join millions in celebrating His Holiness' birthday, praying for his health, happiness, and enduring peace. His teachings inspire generations with values of compassion and non-violence."
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu remarked on the Dalai Lama's influence, saying, "For decades, he has inspired millions with his message of compassion and shared humanity. I pray for his health and long life as he continues his mission of promoting peace and dignity worldwide."
Born on July 6, 1935, in a farming family in Taktser, Amdo province, the young Lhamo Dhondup was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama in 1937.
The 91-year-old monk, known for his simplicity and jovial nature, engages with religious leaders and shares insights on ethics and happiness. He is a prominent figure in the Tibetan exile movement, residing in this northern Indian town with fellow Tibetans.
