Cargo Ship Targeted in Red Sea: What We Know About the Attack
Incident Reported Off Yemen's Coast
On Sunday, a cargo vessel was reportedly attacked near Yemen's coastline in the Red Sea, according to the British military. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirmed that the ship indicated it was 'under attack by unidentified armed individuals.'
The UKMTO has stated that an investigation is currently underway regarding the incident.
At this time, no group has taken responsibility for the attack. Although Yemen's Houthi rebels have previously issued threats to target maritime vessels, they have not executed any attacks recently.
In a related note, there has been a resurgence of Somali piracy activities in the Gulf of Aden, occurring further away from this incident.
