C P Radhakrishnan Makes Historic Visit to Strengthen India-Sri Lanka Relations

Vice President C P Radhakrishnan has embarked on a groundbreaking two-day visit to Sri Lanka, marking the first by an Indian vice president. This visit aims to strengthen the historical ties between the two nations, with plans for bilateral talks and the signing of several memoranda of understanding. Radhakrishnan will also engage with the Indian-origin Tamil community and address the diaspora, highlighting India's commitment to development projects in Sri Lanka. This visit is expected to further solidify the long-standing relationship between India and Sri Lanka.
 

Historic Visit by Indian Vice President


Colombo: On Sunday morning, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan landed in Sri Lanka for a two-day visit aimed at reinforcing the long-standing civilizational and interpersonal connections between the two nations.


He was welcomed at Bandaranaike International Airport by Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage and other prominent figures, accompanied by a delegation of 49 members.


This marks the first visit by an Indian vice president to Sri Lanka, as confirmed by officials.


During his stay, Radhakrishnan is scheduled to engage in discussions with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.


According to a statement from the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry, several memoranda of understanding will be signed, aimed at boosting collaboration on various projects, including those related to Cyclone Ditwah and rehabilitation efforts supported by the Indian government.


The vice president will also meet with leaders from the Indian-origin Tamil community, as well as Tamil representatives from the Northern and Eastern provinces.


In the evening, he will address the Indian diaspora at a community gathering in Colombo, where he will virtually hand over homes to beneficiaries from Tamil communities, constructed with aid from the Indian government as part of the third phase of the Indian Housing Project.


This visit, following a series of high-level interactions between India and Sri Lanka, is anticipated to further enhance the deep-rooted civilizational and people-to-people ties between the two countries, according to an official statement.
