Bill Gates Addresses Epstein Allegations

Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft and a prominent philanthropist, recently testified before the House Oversight Committee regarding his past interactions with Jeffrey Epstein, who has been implicated in child sex trafficking. Gates claimed that Epstein attempted to "blackmail" him by threatening to reveal details about his extramarital affairs. During a closed-door deposition, Gates stated that he ceased communication with Epstein in 2014 after realizing that Epstein would not contribute to his philanthropic efforts aimed at global health, as reported by various news outlets.

In his testimony, Gates expressed regret for meeting Epstein, labeling it a "grave error in judgment." He firmly denied any wrongdoing and asserted that he never witnessed any criminal activities involving Epstein. Gates also clarified that he never visited Epstein's private island.

Gates Testifies Before Congress

Gates became the latest high-profile individual linked to Epstein to provide testimony to the House Oversight Committee. The committee's chairman, Republican Rep. James Comer, had requested Gates' appearance following the release of documents by the Justice Department related to Epstein's case. Upon arriving at the Capitol, Gates emphasized that his testimony was voluntary and expressed hope that it would aid lawmakers in seeking justice for Epstein's victims. He did not address reporters after the session concluded.

Questioning on Epstein's Conviction

During the questioning, lawmakers pressed Gates on why he maintained contact with Epstein after the latter's 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor. Rep. Robert Garcia, the committee's top Democrat, criticized Gates' decision to engage with Epstein, labeling it a "horrific judgment call."

Origins of Their Relationship

Gates recounted that he was introduced to Epstein through associates involved in his philanthropic work, drawn by Epstein's claims of being able to raise substantial funds for global health initiatives. Their association began in 2011, three years post-Epstein's guilty plea, and Gates severed ties in 2014 when he realized Epstein could not fulfill his promises. Documentation from the Justice Department includes calendar entries, emails about philanthropic projects, and photographs of Gates at events attended by Epstein. Gates reiterated that he never sought a personal relationship with Epstein.
