Bangladesh Cricket Team Prepares for Sri Lanka Tour with Intensive Training Camp
Bangladesh's Training Camp Ahead of Sri Lanka Series
On May 28, the Bangladesh Test cricket team commenced their training camp in preparation for their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, scheduled for June and July. This tour will feature a comprehensive series that includes all formats of the game.
In recent years, Bangladesh's performance in red-ball cricket has faced challenges, primarily due to insufficient preparation. During Sri Lanka's recent visit to Bangladesh in 2023, batter Mominul Haque emphasized that relying solely on domestic matches does not adequately prepare players for Test cricket.
This forthcoming Test series marks the beginning of Bangladesh's journey in the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship cycle, making these preparations crucial. The training camp is being led by head coach Sohel Islam, fast bowling coach Nazmul Hossain, and strength and conditioning coach Nathan Kelly, with BCB coach Mizanur Rahman expected to join soon.
"We have a camp from May 28 until June 3 focused on red-ball practice, which is part of our preparation for the Sri Lanka series. The camp includes a total of 22 players from both the national and A teams," stated Shahriar Nafees, who oversees cricket operations at BCB.
After the Eid holidays, the training camp will resume around June 12 or 13. The first Test is set to take place in Galle on June 17, followed by the second Test in Colombo starting June 25.
Meanwhile, pace bowler Taskin Ahmed is currently rehabilitating after a two-month recovery from an ankle injury. He has returned to training and aims to be fit for the Test series in Sri Lanka.
"I am still undergoing rehabilitation. My routine involves treatment one day and training the next. I start training at 7:30 am; I didn’t train today but will resume on Thursday. I am eager to participate in the series. My recovery is progressing, but fast bowlers often take longer to heal, so we are adjusting my workload to gauge how I feel," Taskin explained.
