Anahat Singh's Silver Medal Achievement

Emerging squash talent Anahat Singh brought home a silver medal for India in the women's singles event at the Asian Games 2026 held in Japan on Sunday. She faced Malaysia's Sivasangari Subramaniam in the gold medal match, where she was defeated 3-0, according to reports.

The match was brief, lasting only 27 minutes. Anahat struggled in the first two games, losing them 4-11, 4-11. The final game saw a slight improvement in her performance, but she ultimately lost 7-11.

This victory marks India's 32nd medal at the Asian Games, contributing to a tally of four golds, 14 silvers, and 14 bronzes.

Abhay Singh's Silver Medal Journey

India's quest for an individual gold in squash at the Asian Games continues as Abhay Singh also secured a silver medal. He lost to Malaysia's Ng Eain Yow in the men's singles final with scores of 9-11, 5-11, 5-11. Abhay, who is ranked 26th globally, struggled against the consistency of the Malaysian player, who is ranked 17th in the world, as Eain Yow defended his title successfully.

This result not only earned Abhay a silver medal but also meant he missed the opportunity for Olympic qualification, which is reserved for the men's singles gold medalist, as squash will debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

Despite a strong start in the third game, Abhay could not maintain his lead, allowing Eain Yow to take control and finish the match.

Abhay Singh's Path to the Final

The 28-year-old Abhay reached the final after a notable semifinal victory against Pakistan's Muhammad Irfan, winning with scores of 11-3, 12-10, 11-6. He is only the second Indian male squash player to reach an Asian Games singles final, following Saurav Ghosal.

An Arjuna Award winner in 2024, Abhay achieved a career-high PSA ranking of No. 22 in April 2026 and is currently ranked No. 26. His successful 2026 season includes winning the Indian Open in Mumbai and his third Tuanku Muhriz Trophy title in Malaysia. He was also part of the Indian team that clinched gold at the 2025 SDAT Squash World Cup in Chennai.
