The Indian cricket team has successfully qualified for the semifinals of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. Led by Suryakumar Yadav, the team secured their spot in the final four after defeating the West Indies by five wickets in a crucial Super 8s match held at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

The standout performance came from opener Sanju Samson, who scored an impressive 97 runs off 50 balls, helping India chase down a target of 196 runs after a shaky start at 41/2 in just 4.3 overs.

Match Summary: India vs West Indies

In the match, India won the toss and opted to field first. The West Indies started strong with Roston Chase scoring 40 runs off 25 balls and captain Shai Hope contributing 32 runs off 33 balls, establishing a solid opening partnership of 68 runs. However, they faltered to 119/4 in 14.1 overs, despite a quick 27 runs from Shimron Hetmyer.

A late surge from Jason Holder, who scored 37 not out off 22 balls, and Powell, who added 34 runs off 19 balls, propelled the West Indies to a total of 195 runs in their 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for India, taking 2 wickets for 36 runs in four overs, while Varun Chakaravarthy and Hardik Pandya both finished with figures of 1/40 in four overs each.

During India's innings, they faced early setbacks but a crucial 58-run partnership between Samson and Suryakumar Yadav steadied the innings. Samson continued to build partnerships with Tilak Varma (27 runs off 15 balls), Hardik Pandya (17 runs), and Shivam Dube (8 not out), leading India to a five-wicket victory.
