Why Jennifer Lawrence is Hesitant to Discuss Politics: Insights from Her Latest Podcast
Jennifer Lawrence's Cautious Stance on Political Commentary
In a recent podcast appearance, actress Jennifer Lawrence shared her hesitance to engage in political discussions, particularly regarding figures like Donald Trump. The Oscar-winning star revealed her reluctance to speak out on political issues during her promotional tour for 'Die My Love'.
Previously, Lawrence was vocal against Trump during his presidency, famously penning an op-ed post-election where she stated that Trump's win meant that only white men felt safe and recognized in America.
When questioned about her current views on discussing Trump and politics, she expressed uncertainty, stating, "I don’t really know if I should. The first Trump administration was so wild... celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for." She reflected on the divisiveness in the country and her desire not to exacerbate tensions.
Lawrence emphasized her role as an artist, stating, "I want to protect my craft so that you can still get lost in what I’m doing." She aims to avoid alienating audiences with her political views, fearing it could detract from the impact of her work.
She also mentioned that she channels her political beliefs through her film projects, including 'Bread and Roses', which tells the story of three women in Afghanistan during the Taliban's resurgence, and the abortion documentary 'Zurawski v Texas'.
Lawrence concluded by asserting that her films serve as a medium for her political expression, allowing her to contribute positively to the discourse.
