Following the initial Padma Awards ceremony for 2026, President Droupadi Murmu is set to present 65 prestigious awards at a second ceremony today at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. The first event occurred on May 25, and today's ceremony will honor two Padma Vibhushan, seven Padma Bhushan, and 56 Padma Shri recipients. Notably, the late actor Dharmendra was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, which was accepted posthumously by his wife, Hema Malini. Today, three prominent figures from the entertainment sector will also be recognized.
Mammootty's Padma Bhushan Recognition
Acclaimed Malayalam actor Mammootty will receive the Padma Bhushan during this ceremony. Known for his roles in films like Bramayugam and Mathilukal, he boasts an impressive filmography of over 400 movies spanning five decades. His latest project, Patriot, premiered on May 1.
R Madhavan to be Honored with Padma Shri
While Mammootty is celebrated with the Padma Bhushan, R Madhavan will be awarded the Padma Shri. Affectionately known as Maddy, he has made a significant mark across various film industries throughout his three-decade career. His recent film, Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar: The Revenge, has emerged as one of the major blockbusters of 2026.
Alka Yagnik's Heartfelt Gratitude
Renowned playback singer Alka Yagnik is among the distinguished individuals receiving the Padma Awards from President Droupadi Murmu. She will be honored with the Padma Bhushan. Upon learning of her award, Alka expressed her heartfelt gratitude, stating, "I am profoundly thankful to the Government of India for granting me the Padma Bhushan. After many years in the film and music industry, this recognition feels both humbling and deeply moving."
Honoring the Late Dharmendra and Satish Shah
During the first ceremony on May 25, the late actors Dharmendra and Satish Shah were posthumously awarded the Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shri, respectively. Hema Malini accepted the award on behalf of her late husband. Sharing a moment from the ceremony on Instagram, she wrote, "A euphoric moment! A moment when I truly felt my husband Dharam ji's warm presence, holding my hand and guiding me to the dais where his Padma Vibhushan award awaited him."
