What’s Next for Allu Arjun in the Sandhya Theatre Stampede Case?
Allu Arjun's Absence in Court Raises Questions
In Hyderabad, renowned Telugu actor Allu Arjun did not attend a city court session on Monday regarding the Sandhya Theatre stampede incident. Currently in Mumbai for a film project, he sought permission from the court to be excused from appearing in person, indicating through his lawyer that he would participate in the proceedings virtually.
The Nampally Criminal Court suggested that the actor submit a memo and postponed the hearing until July 6. His legal representative assured the court that Allu Arjun would join the next session online.
All other defendants in the case complied with the court summons and were present on Monday. Allu Arjun, identified as accused number 11 (A11), is involved in the case concerning the tragic stampede that occurred on December 4, 2024, during the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule.
The incident resulted in the death of a woman and left her son severely injured. A total of 23 individuals have been charged in connection with the case, with the first ten accused being associated with the theatre's management, along with eight of the actor's security personnel.
The trial is anticipated to commence once all accused individuals appear before the judge. On the day of the incident, Allu Arjun attended a special screening of Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre, where the excitement surrounding his arrival led to chaos and ultimately the stampede.
The police have charged the theatre management, Allu Arjun, and his team with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Following his arrest on December 13, 2024, he was presented in court and placed in judicial custody for 14 days.
His legal team subsequently sought bail from the High Court, which was granted on the same day, allowing him to be released the following day. Eventually, the Nampally Court provided him with regular bail.
As part of the investigation, Allu Arjun was interrogated on December 24, where he was questioned for three hours at Chikkadpally Police Station, based on a 10-minute video compiled from CCTV footage of the incident. The police filed a charge sheet against the 23 accused in December of the previous year.
