What’s Brewing in the Karisma Kapoor Divorce Saga? Supreme Court Takes Notice!
Supreme Court Involvement in Karisma Kapoor's Divorce Records
New Delhi: On Friday, the Supreme Court issued a notice to actress Karisma Kapoor regarding a request made by Priya Kapur for certified copies of documents related to the divorce proceedings from 2016 with industrialist Sunjay Kapur.
During a private session, Justice A.S. Chandurkar instructed Karisma Kapoor to respond within a fortnight concerning Priya Kapur's request.
Priya Kapur is seeking access to all records associated with the divorce case, including the divorce petition, pleadings from both parties, court orders, and specifically, the settlement reached between Karisma and Sunjay in 2016.
In her application, Priya argues that having the complete divorce records, particularly the financial and custody settlement terms, is crucial for resolving an ongoing estate dispute in the Delhi High Court.
The divorce between Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor was finalized after a settlement that addressed both custody and financial responsibilities.
According to Priya Kapur's legal representative, issues regarding the children's financial arrangements, educational costs, and post-divorce obligations have frequently emerged in the estate litigation, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of the divorce settlement.
It was further emphasized that clarity on the terms agreed upon during the divorce is vital to ascertain whether the current issues have already been resolved during Sunjay Kapur's lifetime.
This application appears to be part of a larger family dispute concerning Sunjay Kapur's estate, where his children from his marriage to Karisma Kapoor are claiming a share, alleging that the will favoring his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, has been altered.
Sunjay Kapur, who married Karisma Kapoor in 2003 and divorced her in 2016, passed away at 53 due to a heart attack while playing polo in the UK, leaving behind a substantial estate valued at approximately Rs 30,000 crore.
