What Makes the Gujarati Film 'Laalo' the Most Profitable Indian Movie of 2025?
Record-Breaking Success of 'Laalo'
The low-budget Gujarati film Laalo has set a remarkable record as the most lucrative Indian film of 2025, boasting an astonishing return on investment of 19,014 percent at the box office.
This devotional drama, produced with a budget of Rs 50 lakh, has grossed Rs 95.57 crore in India and Rs 120.58 crore globally after 113 days in theaters. The film, officially titled Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate, premiered on October 10.
Directed by Ankit Sakhiya and featuring Reeva Rachh, the film achieved a 78-fold return on investment, as reported by the box office tracking platform Sacnilk. It has surpassed the previous record held by Secret Superstar, which had a profit margin of approximately 6,000 percent.
Experts in the industry suggest that replicating Laalo’s profit percentage would necessitate a high-budget film like Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar to amass nearly Rs 30,000 crore, surpassing the global earnings of blockbusters such as Avatar and Avengers: Endgame.
From Modest Beginnings to Major Success
Slow start, strong turnaround
Initially, the film had a slow start, earning Rs 33 lakh in its opening week, followed by Rs 27 lakh in the second week. Reports indicated that by Diwali, only three screenings were available in Mumbai and Gujarat.
However, positive word of mouth led to a significant turnaround. On its 24th day, the film began earning over Rs 1 crore daily, marking a pivotal moment. By the fourth week, the number of screenings had increased to around 2,000.
The film achieved its highest single-day revenue of Rs 7.1 crore on Day 31.
A Milestone for Regional Cinema
Boost for regional cinema
Laalo has significantly contributed to a historic year for Gujarati cinema, which has surpassed the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office for the first time. The industry has also outperformed Punjabi and Marathi cinema in terms of total collections and audience attendance.
According to a report from a media consulting firm, Gujarati cinema recorded 10 million footfalls by early October 2025.
The film is set for a nationwide Hindi release on January 9, 2026, and as of January 1, it continued to draw audiences, earning Rs 9 lakh on its 83rd day in theaters.
