In an exclusive conversation with Times Now Digital, Manisha elaborated on the significance of Gudgudi in her career. She shared that the film draws inspiration from her experiences at amusement parks, capturing the lively spirit of parades and the enchanting presence of mascots that spread happiness and comfort.

Manisha Makwana's Personal Connection to Gudgudi

In her interview, Manisha revealed her belief in manifestation and her long-held dream of walking the red carpet, a vision sparked by Aishwarya Rai's iconic appearances. Although she does not see acting as her calling, bringing Gudgudi to life and showcasing it at Cannes fulfills her aspirations. “My background includes working at an amusement park before I ventured into filmmaking. The story is rooted in my personal experiences and insights,” she explained.

Makwana continued, “Throughout my writing journey, I kept returning to this narrative, influenced by various experiences—some personal, some observational, and others inspired. Gudgudi feels deeply personal, and I couldn't imagine a better project to debut with. When you create with authenticity, it resonates with audiences, and Gudgudi embodies that sentiment for me.”

The Amusement Park Influence on Gudgudi

When asked about the personal elements of Gudgudi, Manisha explained, “The story is shaped by my observations from my time at amusement parks. Each park showcases grand parades and mascots, which are fascinating figures. They bring joy and laughter, yet few comprehend the challenges they endure.” She recounted an Instagram post about a mascot from Bandra whose son is facing difficulties. Located at Mumbai's Bandra Carter Road, this mascot is dedicated to his work, striving to support his son. “There are countless untold stories like his. We are just one narrative among many that highlight individuals who wear a cheerful mask while concealing deeper struggles. Gudgudi represents one of those poignant tales,” she remarked. Gudgudi had its market debut in the Marché du Film segment at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, 2026.
