Known for her role in the film Papi Gudia, Poonam has primarily worked in the horror genre, and this recent incident has brought her back into the public eye, stirring memories for those who enjoyed her performances in the 90s.


Who is Poonam Dasgupta?


Poonam Dasgupta has made her mark in both film and television, particularly in Bollywood and regional cinema during the late 1980s and 1990s. Now around 58 years old, she began her acting career in 1989 and has featured in films across multiple languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada. She is best known for her roles in films like Asha O Bhalobasha and various low-budget horror and thriller movies that gained traction during that era. Additionally, she appeared in episodes of the iconic Zee Horror Show in the 1990s.

Poonam also starred in Papi Gudia, directed by Lawrence D'Souza, alongside actors like Karisma Kapoor, Avinash Wadhavan, Tinnu Anand, and Shakti Kapoor. This film is recognized as an unofficial remake of the 1988 classic Child's Play.


Despite being often associated with B-grade horror films, which had a substantial following in India at the time, Poonam has remained a notable figure in this genre. After stepping away from films in the late 2000s, she returned to acting through theatre, engaging in productions like Begum Sahiba.


Details of Poonam Dasgupta's Case


According to her complaint filed with the Oshiwara police, Poonam received inappropriate videos and images from an unknown WhatsApp number. She has reportedly provided screenshots as proof. As reported by a local media outlet, the objectionable content was sent to her on April 27 around 6:30 PM while she was at home. The messages included private photos that were not publicly available, leading her to believe that the sender might be someone she knows. After attempting to return the call without success, she decided to block the number.

Poonam expressed that the messages caused her significant emotional distress. After discussing the situation with her husband, she approached the police on April 29. A case has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the police are currently working to identify the sender.
