What Changes Have Been Made to the Blockbuster Film 'Dhurandhar' Starring Ranveer Singh?
Changes to 'Dhurandhar' Amidst Controversy
Mumbai: The film Dhurandhar, featuring Ranveer Singh, has emerged as one of the top-grossing Hindi films, amassing over Rs 700 crore in India. Recently, it has been screened with certain dialogues muted.
According to officials, Aditya Dhar Films opted to implement these changes voluntarily, without any instruction from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
The filmmakers consulted the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regarding the modifications, which involved muting the terms 'Baloch' and 'intelligence' due to their potentially offensive nature to specific groups.
These alterations were executed under Rule 31 of the Cinematograph Act, which permits producers to modify a certified film as long as the overall meaning of the scene remains intact.
Having grossed over Rs 1,000 crore worldwide, the film debuted on December 5 and has been generating significant buzz and some controversy. The plot revolves around an Indian spy, portrayed by Ranveer, who infiltrates a gang of criminals and arms traffickers in Pakistan's Lyari.
On Friday, the film was declared tax-free in Ladakh, as announced by Lt Gov Kavinder Gupta's office via a post on X. The film was extensively shot in the region, highlighting Ladakh's stunning landscapes and promoting it as a prime location for film production and tourism.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar also stars Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan. The sequel is set to be released in March this year.
