Influences Behind 'Happy Patel'
In a conversation with a media outlet, Vir Das elaborated on how successful films like 'Pathaan' and 'Tiger 3' inspired the narrative of 'Happy Patel'. Observing the enthusiasm for films like Pathaan and Tiger, I realized that this genre was gaining immense popularity."
The Timing for Comedy in Spy Genre
Comedy's Unique Position
Vir further explained, "Comedy often thrives in contrast to mainstream trends. When something becomes widely accepted, that's when creating a comedic take becomes enjoyable. Given the current popularity of the spy genre in Indian cinema, it felt like the ideal moment to introduce a comedic angle. After watching Pathaan and Tiger 3 about two years ago, I decided to overhaul the entire script."
Nervousness About Aamir Khan's Involvement
Feeling the Pressure
With Aamir Khan and Imran Khan collaborating after many years, and Aamir's own return to the screen, Vir Das admitted to feeling nervous. He shared, "Absolutely, I’m anxious. I’ve screened my film at least 800 times to ensure every detail, from the sound of footsteps to gunfire, is flawless."
Aamir Khan's Inspiring Approach
Learning from Aamir Khan
Vir Das expressed admiration for Aamir Khan's work ethic, noting that they conduct around 30 test screenings before a film's release. He explained, "When you present the film to various audiences 22 to 25 times and adjust based on their feedback, you eventually hear comments like, 'The second half was exhilarating, and the climax was superb.' That’s precisely what a director aims for."
