Veteran Actor Indrans Inspires with His Return to Education at 68

Indrans, a celebrated actor in Malayalam cinema, exemplifies that age is just a number when it comes to pursuing one's dreams. At 68, he took the bold step of sitting for his Class VII equivalency exam, a remarkable feat considering he had to abandon his education due to financial struggles in his youth. Before achieving fame, Indrans faced significant challenges during his childhood in Kumarapuram, Thiruvananthapuram. Despite being a bright student who consistently ranked at the top of his class, financial constraints forced him to leave school at a young age. He reminisced about his time as a 'front-bench' student, a position reserved for high achievers, during an interview with a local media outlet.

The pivotal moment came in fourth grade when his family could no longer afford a school uniform, which was mandatory. This led to a year-long absence from school, and the following year, the struggle to provide for both books and uniforms continued. With seven siblings to care for, continuing his education became unfeasible, and he had to make the difficult decision to stop schooling altogether.

A New Chapter in Education

Indrans' Career and Educational Aspirations

Despite these early obstacles, Indrans carved out a successful career in the film industry, starting as a costume designer in 1981 and eventually transitioning to acting. Known for his exceptional comedic timing, he often found himself in humorous roles but later expanded his repertoire to include more complex characters. His career reached a significant milestone when he received a Special Mention at the National Film Awards for his role in the film Home, directed by Rojin Thomas.

This recognition reignited his long-held desire to complete his education. In 2024, Indrans took a significant step by enrolling in the Class VII equivalency examination organized by the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority. Although he initially aimed to take the Class X exams directly, the educational system required him to first pass the Class VII level. His decision to return to academics at the age of 68 is truly commendable. Professionally, Indrans remains active, with his upcoming project Patriot, directed by Mahesh Narayanan, featuring stars like Mammootty and Mohanlal.
