Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Emotional Exit from IPL: A Season to Remember

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old star of Rajasthan Royals, faced an emotional exit from IPL 2026 after a remarkable season. Despite his team's loss in the Qualifier two, Sooryavanshi's performance was historic, amassing 776 runs and breaking multiple records. His journey reflects both the pressures of youth and the brilliance of talent in T20 cricket. As Gujarat Titans advance to the finals, Sooryavanshi's achievements stand out, making him a player to watch in the future.

Teen Prodigy Emotional After RR's Exit

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the young star of Rajasthan Royals (RR), was visibly emotional after his team's departure from the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the Qualifier two. Despite showcasing an exceptional display of T20 batting at just 15 years old, the loss weighed heavily on him.

Rating Sooryavanshi's performance as A+ would be an understatement, considering the immense expectations he faced in a fluctuating batting lineup. However, the statistics and personal accolades seemed insignificant to the teenager as he buried his face in his Orange Cap while Gujarat Titans (GT) celebrated their victory, securing a spot in the title match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

His innings of 96 runs off 47 balls, though impressive, paled in comparison to Shubman Gill's century during a 215-run chase. While skipper Riyan Parag addressed the audience in the post-match presentation, Sooryavanshi was seen in the dugout, struggling to contain his emotions and receiving comfort from a team staff member.

Sooryavanshi's Record-Breaking Season

Despite the disappointment, Sooryavanshi's season has been nothing short of remarkable. With a total of 776 runs in 16 innings, averaging 48.50 and boasting a strike rate of 237.50, he has made a significant impact. His tally includes a century, five half-centuries, and an astonishing 72 sixes, showcasing a blend of consistency and explosive performance rarely seen in cricket.

In a previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he scored a phenomenal 97 runs off just 29 balls, surpassing Chris Gayle's record of 59 sixes in a single IPL season. Sooryavanshi has not only set new personal records but also completed his 1,000 IPL runs in the fewest balls, achieving this milestone in just 440 deliveries, outpacing Andre Russell. He is now the second-fastest to reach this mark in terms of innings, accomplishing it in 23 innings, just behind Shaun Marsh's record of 21 innings.

How Gujarat Titans Sealed the Final Berth

With their recent victory, the Gujarat Titans have advanced to the finals, where they will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

RR batted first, with Sooryavanshi contributing significantly with his 96 runs (including eight fours and seven sixes), alongside Donovan Ferreira's quick 38 runs off 11 balls, leading RR to a total of 214/6 in their 20 overs.

In response, Gujarat Titans chased down the target of 215 runs, thanks to skipper Shubman Gill's impressive 104 runs off 53 balls and a solid partnership of 167 runs with Sai Sudharsan, who scored 58 runs off 32 balls. This chase marks the highest target successfully pursued in IPL playoff history, surpassing the previous record of 204 runs set by Punjab Kings (PBKS) against Mumbai Indians (MI) last year.
