Ustaad Bhagat Singh: A Major Release During Ugadi

The film Ustaad Bhagat Singh premiered on March 19, coinciding with the Ugadi festival, and has received an enthusiastic response from audiences and the Telugu film sector. Featuring Pawan Kalyan in the lead role, the film is directed by Harish Shankar and showcases Kalyan as a courageous police officer taking on influential adversaries. Alongside him, Sreeleela and Raashii Khanna play significant roles, marking a reunion for Kalyan and Shankar after their successful collaboration on the 2012 hit Gabbar Singh. Amidst the excitement, a Bengaluru court has intervened to prevent the dissemination of negative content aimed at the film.

Legal Action Against Defamatory Content

A temporary injunction was issued by an Additional City Civil Court in Bengaluru on Tuesday, prohibiting the release of any derogatory material concerning Ustaad Bhagat Singh. This legal action followed a petition from Mythri Movie Makers, which sought to address harmful content surfacing prior to the film's release. Judge Jeevanarao Vasantrao Kulkarni acknowledged that the producers presented a strong initial case. The injunction applies to various platforms, including X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Google, BookMyShow, IMDb, Facebook, and Meta Platforms, and will remain effective until the next court session on April 27, 2026.

The court emphasized that denying the injunction could undermine the lawsuit's intent and lead to numerous legal challenges. The judge stated, “Upon reviewing the documents submitted by the plaintiff, I found a strong case in their favor; the balance of convenience supports the plaintiff. If the temporary injunction is not granted, the purpose of this lawsuit will be compromised, potentially resulting in multiple legal actions.” Advocate Navod Prasannan from King Stubb and Kasiva (KSK) represented Mythri Movie Makers, supported by a team including Partners Rahul Mehta, Arpit Choudhury, and Atul Menon, along with Associate Partner Krunal Mehta, Senior Associate Naren Shetty, and Associates Mehak Chaichani and Akalya Ravichandran.

Film's Release Date and Background

Initially set for release on March 26, the film's debut was moved up to March 19 to align with the Ugadi festival, particularly after the postponement of Yash’s Toxic. This change, however, resulted in a box office competition with Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which has been generating significant interest among moviegoers.

First announced in 2021 under the working title Bhavadeeyudu Bhagat Singh, filming officially commenced in 2023 with a brief 10-day schedule. The project faced delays for over a year before shooting resumed in June 2025 and concluded within a year, followed by post-production, dubbing, and background score work completed by February 2026.
