Padma Awards 2026 Ceremony Details

The first investiture ceremony for the Padma Awards 2026 took place last month at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where President Droupadi Murmu honored 66 distinguished individuals. The second Civil Investiture Ceremony is scheduled for June 23, 2026, during which an additional 65 notable figures, including celebrated actors like Mammootty and R Madhavan, will receive their Padma Awards. Additionally, the late actor Satish Shah will be posthumously recognized with a Padma award during this event. In total, the President has sanctioned 131 Padma Awards, comprising five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri accolades.

In the first phase, notable figures from the film industry such as Dharmendra (posthumously), Alka Yagnik, and Prosenjit Chatterjee received awards. On June 23, Malayalam film icon Mammootty will be awarded the Padma Bhushan for his remarkable impact on Indian cinema, having starred in over 400 films throughout his illustrious career spanning five decades. R Madhavan, affectionately known as Maddy, will also be honored with the Padma Shri for his extensive work in Tamil, Hindi, and other languages.

Similarly, Dharmendra was awarded the Padma Vibhushan posthumously, with his wife Hema Malini accepting the honor on his behalf. Their youngest daughter, Ahana Deol, was visibly emotional during the ceremony as she remembered her father. Additionally, Arvind Vaidya, known for his role in Anupamaa, received the Padma Shri at the age of 85 for his contributions to Indian cinema.
