Unveiling the Life of Fashion Icon Giorgio Armani: A Biopic in the Works
Bille August to Direct Armani Biopic
Renowned filmmaker Bille August, a two-time winner of the Palme d'Or, is gearing up to direct a biographical film titled Armani: The King of Fashion. This film will delve into the illustrious life and career of the legendary Italian designer Giorgio Armani. Produced by Andrea Iervolino, the project aims to honor the designer, who sadly passed away in Milan in September 2022 at the age of 91, as reported by a leading entertainment outlet.
Iervolino expressed his belief in August's capability to authentically portray Armani's legacy, emphasizing the director's exceptional skill in showcasing the human side of greatness. He stated, "Some directors create remarkable films, while others have the rare gift of revealing the humanity behind greatness. Bille August is undoubtedly in that extraordinary group." This collaboration is poised to be a significant event in the film industry, aiming to pay tribute to one of fashion's most pivotal figures.
However, the Armani Group has made it clear that this biopic is not authorized and has no official ties to the fashion house. In their statement, the company acknowledged awareness of the film but stressed that they have "never been involved in the initiative, nor have they authorized, supported, endorsed, or participated in its development or production." They further distanced themselves from both the director and the film's content.
Born in Piacenza, Italy, in 1934, Giorgio Armani began his career as a window dresser before working under the esteemed menswear designer Nino Cerruti. In 1975, he co-founded the Giorgio Armani fashion house alongside his partner, architect Sergio Galeotti. Over the years, Armani became one of the most influential designers globally, establishing strong connections with Hollywood by designing costumes for iconic films such as American Gigolo, The Untouchables, and The Wolf of Wall Street.
Currently, there are no casting announcements for Armani: The King of Fashion. Iervolino's recent production credits include Michael Mann's Ferrari and the upcoming Maserati: The Brothers, directed by Bobby Moresco. The excitement surrounding this biopic underscores the lasting influence of Armani's legacy in the fashion industry and beyond.
