Steve Toussaint's Insights on House of the Dragon

Steve Toussaint, known for his role as Lord Corlys Velaryon in House of the Dragon, revealed that he is unaware of his character's fate since he hasn't read George RR Martin's books. He expressed contentment with following the scripts provided by the HBO series. In a recent interview, the British actor hinted at the likelihood of more character deaths in the upcoming episodes and shared his hopes for Season 4, should it be the final season.

What's Next for House of the Dragon?

Toussaint mentioned to Zoom that he was taken aback by some of the Season 3 scripts. He remarked, "As we grow attached to these characters, their deaths resonate more deeply with us." He described the series as a "saga about a family that self-destructs," with Season 4 set to begin filming this year.

He further elaborated, "The impending downfall of this family is increasingly evident as boundaries are crossed, and irreversible actions are taken. Characters are constantly seeking ways to salvage their dignity without causing unnecessary bloodshed. However, the trajectory of this season suggests a grim outcome. That's my intuition. I haven't discussed this with the writers, but it feels like the conclusion will be tragic and bloody."

Steve Toussaint's Choice to Avoid the Source Material

When questioned about his decision not to read the source material, Toussaint explained that it was a conscious choice. He stated, "I recognized that books and screen adaptations are distinct mediums. Books allow for personal imagination, while screen adaptations rely on the vision of writers and directors. I didn't want to become attached to a portrayal of my character in the books only to find it altered for television."

He emphasized his commitment to bringing Corlys to life on screen, stating, "I also wanted to avoid being influenced by knowing the outcomes. I glance through the scripts, and if I survive the episode, I'm content. If not, well, that's part of the story."

Steve Toussaint's Hopes for the Series Finale

Previously, showrunner Ryan Condal mentioned a four-season plan for the series. If Season 4 turns out to be the last, Toussaint hopes for Lord Corlys to survive, joking, "It would be wonderful to retire in a cottage with my grandchildren. That's my dream. I trust our writers to conclude the story in a way that resonates with the first three seasons, providing a logical and satisfying ending. If they can achieve that, I would be pleased." The third season, featuring Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, and Olivia Cooke, is available for streaming in India every Monday on JioHotstar and has already been confirmed for a fourth season.
