For seven years, actor Jameel Khan has portrayed the role of Santosh Mishra, the family patriarch, in the SonyLIV series Gullak. In the latest season, he encounters various challenges at work, but the Mishra family comes together once more to resolve them. Since its debut in 2019, the Hindi series has become a significant part of Jameel's life, and he shared insights into its personal importance. In a recent interview, Jameel Khan mentioned that despite Anant Joshi stepping in for Vaibhav Raj Gupta as Annu Mishra, the dynamic within the cast remained unchanged. He expressed, "The character hasn't changed. For me, it's the same." The two actors bonded over their shared Nainital roots, with Jameel noting, "He's also a Pahadi guy. My entire schooling was in Sherwood Nainital. That Pahadi connection is always there. My wife often says I have a deep affection for the hills. When I meet someone from my school days, I tend to step back and let them reminisce."

Introducing New Characters

This season also introduces Santosh's brother-in-law, Pinky, played by Gopal Datt. Their relationship is characterized by a mix of love and rivalry, with Santosh often referring to him as 'fraudiya.' Jameel shared that despite their complicated relationship, Santosh maintains composure during Pinky's visits. He elaborated, "While there is a love-hate dynamic, Santosh Mishra handles the situation with dignity, ensuring the comedic elements remain intact. Although he has previously mocked Pinky, he recognizes him as his wife's brother and a guest in his home."

The Emotional Resonance of Gullak

Memorable impact of Gullak on Jameel Khan

Jameel reflected on the challenges of recalling specific episodes after years of working on the show, admitting to having a short memory due to juggling multiple projects. However, he emphasized that the family moments in Gullak hold a special place in his heart. He stated, "One of the most impactful aspects for me is witnessing the family's willingness to make sacrifices for one another. While 'sacrifice' may seem like a heavy term, it encapsulates the essence of family. I prefer to view it as a joy rather than a sacrifice, as it brings me happiness. This theme of giving joyfully is central to the season and resonates with my personal beliefs." Gullak, co-directed by Abhay Raut and Shreyansh Pandey, is currently available for streaming on SonyLIV, featuring a talented cast including Geetanjali Kulkarni, Harsh Mayar, and Sunita Rajwar.
