The iconic singer passed away at the age of 92 after being hospitalized at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital due to severe exhaustion and a critical chest infection. As tributes flood in from across the nation, composer Anu Malik expressed his heartfelt sorrow, likening her loss to that of his own mother.


Anu Malik Reflects on Asha Bhosle's Impact


Her son, Anand Bhosle, along with medical professionals, confirmed that the Padma Vibhushan awardee passed away on Sunday afternoon. Following her death, her body was taken to her home, where family members gathered to make arrangements for the final rites set for April 13. In an exclusive interview, Anu Malik reminisced about his early career and the significant influence Asha Bhosle had on his journey. He described her as not only a legendary artist but also an exceptional person who supported him during his struggles. He remarked, "She was not only a great singer but a greater human being."



Malik shared a poignant memory from 1977 when he was just starting out at the age of 14. Despite her busy schedule and health issues, Asha Bhosle made it to the set, showcasing her dedication. He recalled her arriving with a plastered hand but still committed to her work. This moment became a defining experience for Malik, highlighting her generosity and commitment to her craft.


He fondly remembered how she guided him through the complexities of the music industry, often referring to her as 'Asha Maa'. Their relationship transcended professional boundaries, with Malik forming close bonds with her family, particularly her sons Hemant and Nandu. He shared, "I was really close to her son Hemant and her younger son, Nandu. And I was very close to everybody there."

Malik's sorrow was particularly deep as he reflected on his personal loss, having lost his own mother in 2021. He expressed that Asha Bhosle’s death feels like a painful reminder of that experience. He praised her unmatched versatility, noting her ability to seamlessly transition between various music genres. From ghazals to pop hits and classical pieces, Asha Bhosle's talent was unparalleled. He highlighted her ability to deliver iconic songs across different styles, stating, "How do you explain a woman singing Dum maaro dum and then also singing, O Haseena Zulfon Wali and also singing Umrao Jaan?"


Asha Bhosle's musical legacy spans decades, with timeless tracks that have solidified her status as a legend in Indian cinema. Her final song, The Shadowy Light, was a collaboration with the British virtual band Gorillaz for their album The Mountain.
