In a deeply saddening turn of events, renowned singer and actor Prashant Tamang, who gained fame as the winner of Indian Idol Season 3, has passed away. He was only 43 years old at the time of his death due to a heart attack.


Circumstances Surrounding His Death

On Sunday morning, Prashant fell ill unexpectedly at his residence in Janakpuri, Delhi. He was rushed to a hospital in Dwarka, where he was pronounced dead by the medical staff. While some reports mention a stroke, the majority of sources indicate that a heart attack was the primary cause of his demise. Notably, he had not reported any serious health issues prior to this incident and had recently returned to Delhi after a performance in Arunachal Pradesh.


Who Was Prashant Tamang?

Hailing from Darjeeling in West Bengal, Prashant belonged to the Nepali-speaking Gorkha community. After losing his father at a young age, he had to discontinue his education and took up a job as a constable with the Kolkata Police, where he showcased his singing talent in the police orchestra.


In 2007, he participated in Indian Idol Season 3 and emerged victorious, instantly becoming a household name. His win resonated with millions across the country, especially within the northeastern and Nepali communities.


Following his triumph, he released his debut album titled 'Dhanyabad,' featuring songs in both Hindi and Nepali. Some of his popular tracks include 'Bir Gorakhali' and 'Asare Mahinama,' which continue to be cherished by fans.


Recently, he received acclaim for his role as Sniper Daniel Acho in a significant project and had also worked in Nepali films. Additionally, he was set to collaborate with Salman Khan on an upcoming film.

Prashant was married to Geeta Thapa, a flight attendant, in 2011, and they have a daughter named Arya.
