Tom Holland shares how Christopher Nolan cast him in The Odyssey

In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Holland humorously recounted his initial phone call from Christopher Nolan, jokingly stating, "Honestly, I thought he was supposed to call Timothee Chalamet." The British star shared that when he received the call from his agent, they speculated that Nolan's new film could either be a vampire story or a space ensemble. He was eager to be part of either project.

Holland recounted flying from London to Los Angeles to meet Nolan at his residence, where he was captivated by the director's succinct two-word pitch: The Odyssey. Although he hadn't read the original material, Holland was keen to join the project and took the script home for further reading. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating, "I was blown away by the script and my part. The next day, I returned to his house, and we had to literally reschedule Spider-Man. The start date coincided with The Odyssey's, and I had to contact the studio. A big thank you to Tom Rothman, who is an absolute legend; without him, I wouldn't have been able to take part in this film."

Earlier this week, Holland was in Mumbai, India, promoting The Odyssey, where he described his first day on set as an overwhelming experience. He noted the film's grand scale, stating, "I'm looking at thousands of people in costume, hundreds of boats, and horses standing in the sand as waves crash around them. An assistant director told me, 'Just go that way, and you'll eventually find the crew.' I felt like I walked for miles before finally spotting Matt [Damon] and Chris [Nolan] at the center of this massive production. I remember pinching myself that day, reminding myself to soak it all in because this is unlike anything that has ever been done before and likely won't be replicated again."
