Tom Holland Chooses Spider-Man Over Batman Ahead of The Odyssey Release

As Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey prepares for its theatrical release on July 17, Tom Holland humorously weighs in on the Marvel vs DC debate. During the film's New York premiere, he confidently stated that Batman's only advantage over Spider-Man is his wealth. With Holland reprising his role as Spider-Man in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to release shortly after The Odyssey, fans are eager to see how these two iconic characters continue to evolve in their respective universes. The film features a star-studded cast, including Matt Damon and Robert Pattinson, making it a must-watch this summer.

The Odyssey Set to Premiere

Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film, The Odyssey, is set to hit theaters tomorrow, July 17. The movie features Matt Damon in the lead role of Odysseus, alongside notable actors such as Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson in significant roles. Recently, during the film's New York premiere, Tom Holland addressed the long-standing debate between Marvel and DC, specifically from Spider-Man's viewpoint. When asked about Batman's advantages over Spider-Man, Holland confidently responded.

Holland's Confident Response

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet, Holland was posed the question, "What do you think is one thing that Batman has over Spider-Man?" Without hesitation, he replied, "I'd say nothing - he has more money than Spider-Man, that's about it, to be honest."

Tom Holland's Spider-Man Legacy

Holland has been portraying Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since his debut in Captain America: Civil War (2016). His latest appearance was in Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), which featured all three live-action Spider-Men—Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Holland—in a monumental Marvel event. His next film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is scheduled for release on July 31, which amusingly means Holland will be competing against himself at the box office this month.

Batman’s Unique Attributes

On the other hand, Robert Pattinson first took on the role of Batman in Matt Reeves' The Batman (2022). Although Bruce Wayne lacks superhuman powers, he utilizes his immense wealth, advanced technology, and extensive combat training to confront Gotham's villains. A sequel to The Batman is expected to be released in early 2028.

The Ongoing Marvel vs DC Debate

Holland's light-hearted comment underscores a key distinction between these two legendary superheroes. Spider-Man's abilities are derived from a radioactive spider bite, granting him enhanced strength, agility, and web-slinging skills. Conversely, Batman is an ordinary human whose primary strengths lie in his intellect, detective prowess, physical conditioning, and financial resources. Fans are unlikely to witness a crossover between Holland's Spider-Man and Pattinson's Batman, as they belong to competing comic book universes—Marvel and DC.

The Odyssey: A Unique Collaboration

While a superhero crossover remains a distant dream, Holland and Pattinson will share the screen in Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. This grand adaptation of Homer's timeless poem boasts an impressive cast, including Matt Damon, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, and Lupita Nyong'o. The Odyssey will be released on July 17, followed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31. Additionally, Robert Pattinson is set to appear in Dune: Part Three, which is scheduled for December 18, 2026, reuniting him with Zendaya after The Odyssey. Meanwhile, Holland and Zendaya will also collaborate in Brand New Day.
