The Future of The Summer I Turned Pretty

Amazon Prime Video's popular series, The Summer I Turned Pretty, concluded its third season last year. However, the journey of Belly (Lola Tung), Conrad (Christopher Briney), and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) is far from over, as a film continuation was announced shortly after the series finale. Filming for the movie is scheduled to commence in Wilmington, North Carolina, on April 27, 2026. Yet, a troubling report has emerged indicating that the young cast was allegedly coerced into signing contracts for the film in exchange for a salary increase for the third season.

Behind-the-Scenes Salary Negotiations

As reported by a media outlet, the young stars of The Summer I Turned Pretty, including Tung, Briney, Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, and Rain Spencer, received a pay raise only after agreeing to participate in the film. Kaufman portrays Belly’s older brother, Steven, while Spencer plays her best friend, Taylor. Initially, the five rising talents earned between $35,000 and $40,000 per episode during the first season. The series, created and executive produced by author Jenny Han, gained immense popularity, especially in its second and third seasons, becoming a cultural sensation with fans divided into Team Conrad and Team Jeremiah.

Sources indicate that some cast members were reluctant to participate in the film but were assured of a salary increase if they signed on. Despite initial hesitations, all actors ultimately agreed to the project. Reports suggest that several lead actors felt pressured to accept the revised terms, fearing their pay raises were at risk if they did not comply.

For the third season, the three main leads reportedly earned $100,000 per episode, with Tung receiving a higher salary than her male counterparts. Under the new contracts for the film, the cast is set to earn three times their episodic salary for the upcoming streaming sequel.
