Thalapathy Vijay's Request to CBI
Thalapathy Vijay, the leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and a prominent actor, has reportedly asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a 15-day postponement regarding his questioning linked to the tragic stampede in Karur. The CBI had previously summoned him to appear on March 10. This unfortunate incident occurred during a political rally on September 27, 2025, resulting in 41 fatalities and over 60 injuries. Initially, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) managed the case, but it has since been transferred to the CBI.
Vijay's Special Request to CBI
According to sources, Vijay has formally requested a 15-day extension from the CBI, with further questioning scheduled at their zonal office. Officials are currently reviewing his request and are anticipated to issue a new summons shortly. Notably, Karur's MLA, Senthil Balaji, has not participated in the investigation despite being summoned by the CBI. More updates on this situation are awaited.
Previously, the Varisu actor was interrogated by the agency on January 10 and January 19, 2026.
Vijay's Heartfelt Reaction to the Karur Stampede
The stampede deeply affected Vijay, who expressed his sorrow on social media. He shared, "My heart is shattered; I am writing in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow that words cannot express. I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of my dear brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. I pray for the swift recovery of those receiving treatment in the hospital."

In other news, Vijay's estranged wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has initiated divorce proceedings at the Chengalpattu Family Court near Chennai, alleging that he is involved with another actress, reportedly Trisha Krishnan. The couple, who married in 1999, share two children: son Jason Sanjay and daughter Divya Seesha. Reports indicate that their son has unfollowed Vijay on social media.
On the work front, Vijay's film Jana Nayagan has faced delays due to certification issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which was set to premiere on January 9, 2026.
