Tennis Icon John McEnroe and Patty Smyth List Malibu Paradise Cove Estate for $35 Million
Luxury Malibu Estate on the Market
John McEnroe, the legendary tennis player, and his wife, singer-songwriter Patty Smyth, have put their stunning beachfront property in Malibu up for sale at a price of $35 million. The couple, who primarily live in Manhattan's Upper West Side, purchased this luxurious estate in 2015 for $21 million, using it as a serene escape from their busy lives in New York.
Located in the prestigious Paradise Cove area, this home has been a peaceful retreat for nearly ten years. Despite this significant change in their real estate holdings, the couple plans to keep a smaller Malibu property they acquired in 2013 for $3.35 million.
Exploring the Paradise Cove Residence
Inside the Paradise Cove Residence
The expansive residence covers around 6,500 square feet and was originally designed by architect Steven Ehrlich in the mid-1990s, with later renovations by interior designer Michael Lee. Its modern design features large glass panels and open living spaces that enhance the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.
This multi-level home boasts four bedrooms and multiple bathrooms, with an elevator and dumbwaiter for easy access between floors. A glass atrium welcomes guests with natural light, leading to a spacious living area centered around a grand fireplace. An extensive deck extends from the living and dining spaces, providing unobstructed views of the ocean.
The lower level is perfect for entertainment, featuring a family room, wet bar, dining area, and kitchenette. Outdoor amenities include a covered deck with a hot tub and private stairs leading directly to the beach. The property also features a landscaped garden and an open-air pavilion ideal for yoga or exercise.
A Life Together Beyond Fame
A Shared Life Beyond the Spotlight
John McEnroe and Patty Smyth, who tied the knot in 1997 after meeting in 1993, have successfully balanced their careers in sports and music. Smyth, recognized as the lead vocalist of the band Scandal and for her solo work, and McEnroe, a former tennis champion, have often collaborated professionally. Most recently, they performed together on August 22, 2026, at Guild Hall in East Hampton as part of the PORTRAITS concert series.
If the estate sells for the listed price, it will mark the end of their ownership of the Paradise Cove property. However, by keeping their secondary Malibu residence, McEnroe and Smyth will continue to enjoy their time between their main home in New York and their coastal retreat in California.
