Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister Expands Breakfast Scheme for School Children

Expansion of the Breakfast Initiative

On Sunday, M.K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, announced that over 2 million school students will benefit from the expansion of the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme, set to launch on August 26. This initiative aims to ensure the comprehensive development of children.

The scheme is now being extended to government and aided primary schools in urban areas of Tamil Nadu.

During the announcement of this expansion, Punjab's Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will be present on Wednesday. Stalin shared on social media that the initiative will now support 20.59 lakh school children.

He stated, 'From the days of the Justice Party to the Dravidian model government, we have been providing meals and education to children. This is not just food; it lays a strong foundation for their development.'

The Chief Minister emphasized that this 'latest effort' by the government sets a precedent for the nation and that Tamil Nadu will continue to progress. In a letter to party workers, he reflected on how such initiatives began when former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj launched the mid-day meal scheme.

Later, the late M.G. Ramachandran transformed it into a nutritious meal program. Stalin noted that years later, under the leadership of the late M. Karunanidhi, the Dravidian Munnetra Kazhagam government included eggs in the meals provided to students.
