Swastika Mukherjee's Voting Dilemma

Renowned Bengali actress Swastika Mukherjee has voiced her disappointment regarding the election commission's handling of voter registrations, as her name has vanished from the list for the ongoing West Bengal Elections 2026. Currently, the state is conducting its first phase of voting across 152 seats in 16 districts. In a recent discussion, the actress, known for her role in Paatal Lok, revealed that both she and her sister, Ajopa Mukherjee, were unable to vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as well. She admitted that due to past experiences, she lacked the time and opportunity to ensure her name was included on the list.

Swastika Mukherjee's Voting Experience

In an interview with a local media outlet, Swastika expressed her certainty that her name was absent from the voter list. She mentioned her frustration with the process, stating that she did not have the patience to make calls to rectify the situation and chose to remain at home instead. The actress remains hopeful about participating in future elections. Reflecting on the 2024 incident, she shared her experience on Instagram, explaining that she had lost her voter ID card, while her sister had hers, allowing Ajopa to vote last year. Unfortunately, both sisters found their names missing this time around. “I have never seen anything more disgusting than this,” she remarked.

Swastika also pointed out that while her parents' names remain on the list, she was shocked to find that individuals who have passed away years ago are still listed as eligible voters. This irony highlights the flaws in the electoral process in India, where many eligible voters are unable to cast their ballots due to missing names.
