Sushma Murudkar Speaks Out on Set Insult During Kundali Bhagya Shoot
Sushma Murudkar's Shocking Experience on Kundali Bhagya Set
Marathi actress Sushma Murudkar has recently garnered attention for her candid remarks regarding an incident on the set of the Hindi television series, Kundali Bhagya. In a recent interview, she disclosed that she faced humiliation from the show's director due to her 'Gavthi Marathi' accent. Currently, Sushma is featured in a Marathi series, Kamali, and previously held a significant role in Kundali Bhagya. During filming, the director reprimanded her for delivering Hindi lines with a Marathi accent, publicly chastising her in front of a crew of 200.
Sushma Murudkar Reflects on the Insult
Like many Marathi actresses such as Swati Chitnis and Manasi Salvi, Sushma has appeared in various Hindi productions. However, she encountered a challenging moment while working on Kundali Bhagya. In an interview with Rajshri Marathi, she recounted how the director, positioned far from her, reacted negatively when she blended Hindi and Marathi during a scene. He shouted, “Aapka gavthi Marathi nahi chalega. Ekdum barabar Hindi boliye.” (Your village-type Marathi will not work. Speak Hindi properly). Despite the embarrassment, Sushma responded with a simple 'okay' and managed to deliver a flawless performance afterward.
Sushma acknowledged that Marathi actors often struggle with accent issues in Hindi projects. She admitted that while her Hindi has significantly improved, her proficiency in Marathi has diminished. Upon returning to Marathi shows, she was even suggested for a role portraying a character with a speech disability due to her perceived difficulties with the language. Nevertheless, she remained optimistic, affirming to herself, “I am the best,” and diligently worked on her language skills. This experience underscored for Sushma the necessity of mastering regional languages for on-screen success.
