Sunny Deol Returns to the Screen with 'Ikka'

Sunny Deol is gearing up for his highly awaited debut on OTT platforms with the film Ikka, which is set to launch on Netflix on July 10. This film not only signifies a major comeback for Deol but also marks a reunion with Akshaye Khanna, nearly thirty years after their memorable collaboration in the classic film Border. In Ikka, the duo takes on a riveting courtroom drama, showcasing their acting prowess in a fresh context.

During a special screening held in Mumbai on Thursday, Deol shared his thoughts about the film and paid homage to his late father, Dharmendra, adding a heartfelt touch to the event. His clean-shaven look, paired with a checked shirt and jeans, led to speculation regarding its connection to his upcoming role in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana. When asked about the industry's emphasis on appearances, Deol humorously commented, “Aaj kal te looks de pichhe paye jaande ne. Acting te khatam ho gayi hai,” which translates to, “Nowadays, people are more focused on looks. Acting has taken a backseat.” His candid remarks brought laughter from the audience, reflecting his views on the changing landscape of acting.

Attendees at the screening noted that both the teaser and trailer of Ikka introduce him as "Dharmendra's son Sunny Deol," a thoughtful nod to his father's legacy. Deol remarked, “Papa ke bete hai, aur kya hai? Accha kaam karte hai toh accha lagta hai ki papa khush honge ki unke bete accha kaam kar rahe hai,” meaning, “We are Dad's sons, after all. It feels good to do good work, knowing Dad would be happy that his sons are doing well.” This statement highlights the profound respect and admiration he has for his father.

Directed by Siddharth P Malhotra and produced by Alchemy Films, Ikka is expected to deliver a gripping courtroom narrative filled with emotional depth and intricate relationships. Following this release, Sunny Deol will also appear in "Batwara 1947," reuniting him with director Rajkumar Santoshi, with whom he has previously collaborated on successful films like "Ghayal," "Damini," and "Ghatak." This upcoming project will also mark Deol's first collaboration with Aamir Khan Productions, further enhancing his remarkable career in the film industry.
