The latest installment, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, premiered in China on Wednesday, achieving outstanding box office results. The film has seen remarkable pre-sales and opened with figures that rank among the highest for a Hollywood release in the country. Impressively, it outperformed the opening-day earnings of Zootopia 2, further cementing its success.

On its first day, Brand New Day amassed an impressive $35 million from 167,000 screenings, which includes $4 million from previews held on Tuesday. The film's strong opening can be attributed to its pre-sales, a common trend for superhero films, with walk-up ticket sales making up 52% of the total, while 48% were pre-purchased. This enthusiastic reception indicates positive word-of-mouth among Chinese audiences.

As reported by Luiz Fernando, Spider-Man: Brand New Day achieved the highest opening day for any comic book film in China since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, surpassing the previous record set by Venom: The Last Dance, which earned $9.4 million. Furthermore, it ranks as the second-largest opening day for a Hollywood film post-pandemic, only behind F9's $58.4 million debut, and it exceeded Zootopia 2's $33.9 million opening.

The film also stands as the second-biggest opening day for a solo comic book movie, trailing only Spider-Man: Far from Home, which earned $35.5 million. It has outperformed the opening days of other significant films, including Venom's $34.9 million and Aquaman's $24.6 million. Currently, Brand New Day has recorded $4.9 million in pre-sales for Thursday, with screenings increasing to over 172,000.

Industry experts predict that Spider-Man: Brand New Day could generate between $115 million and $125 million over its five-day opening weekend, with a potential three-day weekend total of $60 million to $70 million. If these projections are accurate, it would mark the third-largest full opening and the fourth-largest three-day weekend for a Hollywood film in China since the pandemic. The film, featuring stars such as Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, and Sadie Sink, was released in China on Wednesday and globally on July 31.
