Sonu Mishra Exits 'Kala Hiran' Over Ethical Concerns Regarding Salman Khan Portrayal

Actor Sonu Mishra has exited the film 'Kala Hiran', citing ethical concerns over its portrayal of Salman Khan. Initially excited about the role, Mishra became uncomfortable with the film's narrative, which he felt unfairly targeted the superstar. He revealed that contractual obligations demanded he speak negatively about Khan, prompting his decision to leave the project. This controversy has drawn attention, especially after veteran actor Govind Namdev also distanced himself from the film. The filmmakers maintain that the characters are fictional and not based on real individuals. Mishra's departure raises significant questions about the film's intentions and ethical implications.

Ongoing Controversy Surrounds 'Kala Hiran'

The troubles for 'Kala Hiran' seem unending. Following claims that the film draws inspiration from the infamous blackbuck poaching case involving Salman Khan, actor Sonu Mishra has made new allegations against the film's creators regarding their motives. Mishra, who previously appeared alongside Salman in 'Sikandar' (2025) as a police officer, has shared his reasons for opting out of 'Kala Hiran'. The film gained attention after its teaser was released, with many viewers noting its resemblance to the 1998 blackbuck incident involving Khan. Recently, veteran actor Govind Namdev also distanced himself from the film, expressing his concerns publicly.

In a media interaction, Mishra disclosed that he was initially excited about the lead role in 'Kala Hiran', which was reportedly inspired by Salman Khan. However, after just two days of filming, he began to feel uncomfortable with the narrative, which he believed was crafted to portray Khan negatively. As production continued, he felt increasingly uneasy about the direction of the project.

Mishra's Ethical Stand

Sonu Mishra did not want to show Salman in 'negative light'

Mishra expressed that he ultimately recognized the film's intent as detrimental, specifically targeting Salman Khan. He stated, "As an actor, I refuse to participate in a project like this. While they have their perspective, it unfairly depicts superstar Salman Khan in a negative light and presents a one-sided story." Despite viewing the role as a significant opportunity for his career, he chose to leave the project, prioritizing his personal principles over potential fame. He emphasized that while he respects Khan, he could not align himself with a character designed to tarnish the superstar's reputation.

Contractual Issues

Contract matters

Mishra raised serious concerns regarding the proposed contract for the film. After some delays, he received a contract that included clauses requiring him to speak negatively about Salman to the media. He remarked that these demands crossed an ethical boundary for him, solidifying his decision to exit the project before any agreement was finalized. Additionally, he mentioned that the film's producers objected to him sharing behind-the-scenes footage on social media, threatening legal action despite the absence of a signed contract.

Speculations on Legal Actions

Legal threats or promotion tactic?

Mishra also criticized producer Amit Jani for publicly disclosing legal notices related to the film, suggesting that such actions were merely a strategy to generate buzz and media attention. He claimed, "The legal notice they are discussing hasn't even reached them directly. It's all about creating hype and making the makers more famous; there's nothing substantial behind it."

Kala Hiran controversy

Govind Namdev previously expressed feeling misled about the film's content, unaware that a character resembling Salman Khan would be depicted in such a manner. Meanwhile, the filmmakers have consistently asserted that all characters and events in the film are fictional and not meant to represent any real individuals.
